Job Description
Atomic Energy Council Seeks to Recruit highly motivated, result oriented and suitably qualified professional Radiation Protection Officers with high level of integrity.
Job Purpose:
 To ensure affective regulatory control over the import, export, possession, use, storage transport and disposal of radiation sources and nuclear materials through evaluation, processing and ssuance of authorizations in accordance with the Atomic Energy Act Cap 154, regulations there under and IAFA Safety Standards, thereby ensuring protector a’ workers, to public and environment from the harmful effects of ion zing radiation.
Qualifications
aj At least a Second Class Bachelor’s degree in ether Physics, or Radiation protection or Nuclear safety or Nuclear science and technology from a recognized and reputat e University.
b) A Masters’ degree or Post Graduate qualification on in either Physics ar Radiation protection ar Nuclear safety or Nuclear science and technology is an added advantage.
c) Experience in Nuclear science and technology is an added advantage
Key Competencies and Skills
- a Strong knowledge of radiation source categorization and authorzation processes
- b) Proficiency in use and calibration of radiation detection equipment
- c) Computer literacy and familiarity with regulatory data systems e.g RA S+
- d) Excellen: interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
- e) Proficiency in safety assessments, risk evaluation and radiation control techniques
- 1) Report writing presentation and communications skills
- g) Knowledge of strategic management
- Hj Ability to make decisions
- Demonstration of personal drive
- Strong conceptual ard analytical skills
- k) Ability to work independently under minimal supervision
- ▷ Sound knowledge of the Atomic Energy Act Cap. 154. Regulations thereunder and IAEA Safety

Duties and Responsibilities
i) Evaluate notification and application documents for completeness.
ii) Review and assess notification and application documents.
iii Prepare licenses, permits and certificates of registration.
iv) Conduct pre-authorisation inspections, cocument findings and recommend approvals or corrective action.
- Develop Regulatory Documents as may be required.
 vij Update authorization databases for all authorized facilities, licensees and rad alien sources.
 vii) Participate in the technica and radiological safety ovaluation of facilites applying for authorization.
